From June 10 to 20, Kairos Italy Theater (KIT) presented the "In Scena! Italian Theater Festival" NY, the first Italian theater festival to take place annually in all five New York City boroughs and beyond. Laura Caparrotti, Artistic Director of KIT and Founding Director of the Festival, reports that attendance was about 800 people throughout this two-week celebration of Italian theater, which was held in intimate venues in all five boroughs. The festival included three full productions that were US premieres, three special events and four staged readings. It ended in an evening of three plays by America's most famous Italian playwright, Mario Fratti.

This was the first Italian theater festival to take place in all five boroughs of New York. In the intimate theaters hosting events, there were many houses completely filled. Frequently, performers were greeted with standing ovations. Representatives of each borough expressed gratitude and a willingness to collaborate with the festival again in 2014. Audiences expressed gratitude that finally, a festival with the uniqueness of this one was offered "not only Manhattan."

Laura Caparrotti reflects, "We started out with an evening-long celebration of Italian theater, then we had ten days of Italian plays and staged readings and special events in NY. We ended up with a tribute to Mario Fratti, the best way to close a festival."

The festival included 30 artists and was seen by 800 audience members in nine locations. There were 33 producing partners. Seven new plays were introduced to New York. "This was a great beginning for the Festival," says founder Laura Caparrotti. "We hope to do more and more starting in 2014."
