BROWN had its world premiere the first week of July at the Hudson Guild Theater, as part of the NY Theater Festival in its Summerfest 2019 version.

Written and performed by Sonia Mera and directed by Andrea Velasco, BROWN addresses how shocking it is for foreigners to be classified in terms of color and race when they come to the United States. Mera focuses particularly on the case of Latinos who are usually classified as 'brown' based on the geographical area in which they were born, with a blatant disregard for the enormous diversity of origins and colors of the people who shape Latin America and give life to the rich and varied Latino culture. BROWN invites us to challenge racial stereotypes and labels imposed by others in order to reinforce our personal sense of identity.

After a successful run and excellent reviews, Mera is working on a film script based on BROWN, which is expected to start shooting in 2020.
