Fanny Kemble, arguably the first Superstar in the history of entertainment, takes to the stage one last time. And-with the help of William Shakespeare-tells it all. An acclaimed actress, a bestselling author, a prominent socialite who dined with presidents and Supreme Court justices, Fanny was also a 19th Century abolitionist who discovered soon after her marriage that she was now half owner of 800 Georgia plantation slaves.
The original company of Tom Ziegler's Mrs. Kemble's Tempest reunites for this year's United Solo Festival. From as far afield as Montana, London, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, they will gather in New York City for a whirlwind of Theatre, Women's Rights, the Abolition of Slavery, the Civil War, and a generous helping of Shakespeare.
Directed by Jere Hodgin, Jane Ridley brings Fanny Kemble and more than 35 other characters to life, prodded on by Josh Harvey as her Petulant Pianist.
