Casting has been announced for Ophelia Theatre Group's upcoming production of Hedda Gabler. Directed by Kelly McCready, performances will run from October 28 to November 19 in Astoria, Queens.

All at once magnificent and terrifying, Hedda Gabler has given up her exciting high society life to settle down as the wife of an academic. But an old flame's return resurrects old rivalries, shifts power dynamics and leaves one of the most iconic female characters of all time wondering: how can I be a woman when I have no talent for it? Stripped-down and streamlined to a cool 80 minutes, this fast, sexy, tense and surprisingly funny adaptation of Ibsen's drawing-room classic, gallops towards an electrifying finale.

Henrik Iben's A Doll's House was published in 1879. The protagonist was female, and audiences were shocked when she left her husband and children at the end of the play. It was known as the "door slam that was heard around the world." In 1890, Ibsen released Hedda Gabler, which seems like the logical successor to A Doll's House. Instead of leaving at the end of the play like Nora does, Hedda does something much more definitive. She says, "I'd rather die." And she means it.

The company will include Kaitlyn Schirard (Hedda Gabler), Lebron Lackey (Eilert Lovborg), Glenn Stoops* (Judge Brack), David De Almo* (George Tesman), and Thea Elvsted (Maya Carter). *Actors appearing courtesy of Actors' Equity Association.

The production features costume design by Anna Winter, scenic design by Suzu Sakai, and lighting design by Kelley Shih.

Hedda Gabler will run October 28-November 19, 2016. Evening Performances: October 28 & 29, November 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 & 19 @ 8pm. Matinee performances: November 6 & 13 @ 3pm.
