Ohio Theatre Presents Collection of Plays Entitled 'Love,' 4/21-4/24

SHORT LOVE at the OHIO is a festival of short works by award-winning playwrights Bekah Brunstetter (OOHRAH!, Atlantic Theater), Dan Kitrosser (Night of the Butterfly, 45 Bleecker Theatre) and Justin Swain (OtherLife, American Place Theater) all woven together to into that big wicker basket we call Love, playing Wednesday - Saturday, April 21st - April 24th at 7pm, at The Ohio Theatre.

Some plays are funny, some touching, some far out there, some close in here, but after an evening where you'll encounter the love for Harry Potter, a big gay storytelling frog, two guys taking a road trip, an abortion and a girl on a subway, you'll see that while love is a vast, complicated thing, the best kind of love is quick and cheap.

Bekah Brunstetter's plays this evening are DIANE, THE JESSICA or THE WISHMAKER/MONSTER MACHINE, LEVITICUS and DRAMA PLAY. Her plays include OOHRAH! (Atlantic Theater, 2009), MISS LILLY BETS BONED (Lark Playwright's Week 2009), You May Go NOW: A MARRIAGE PLAY (Finborough Theater, London, 2010; NYIT Award for best new play). She is the 2010 resident playwright of the Finborough Theater, London. She is currently working on new play commissions for Ars Nova, Naked Angels, The Roundabout Underground, and Keen Teens.

Justin Swain's plays this evening are GIRL ON THE SUBWAY and NEW CAR PLAY. He iss the author of The Corn Maiden (an adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates novella of the same name) directed by Jess Mcloed at the New School Space in the NYC International Fringe Festival 2008; OtherLife at the American Place Theater, produced by Working Man's Clothes; Blood Sex and Transportation at the American Place Theater, Produced by Working Man's Clothes; Treesfall part of "DreadAwakening" performed at Primary Stages 45th Street Theater produced by The Thursday Problem; Bump: Miami and New York City at the Ohio Theatre,Henry Street Settlement and the Ground Floor Theatre, produced by Jay Harris, The Juggerknot Theatre Company and Workingman's Clothes.

Dan Kitrosser's plays this evening are ON THE WAY TO MY ABORTION and STORYTIME WITH A BIG GAY FROG. His plays include NIGHT OF THE BUTTERFLY (45 Bleecker Theatre), THE LEGEND OF ICHABOD CRANE (Brooklyn Lyceum), THE MUMBLINGS (Working Man's Clothes Bootleg Series, MTC with Stephanie D'Abruzzo and David Wilson Barnes), BE HERE NOW (Philly Young Playwrights Festival Winner) and BLIZZARD THE WIZARD (Urban Stages). He is the Associate Artistic Director of THEATRE 4the PEOPLE.

The shows are directed by Isaac Byrne, Andrew Daviews, Jake Witlet, and Kara Ayn Napolitano. The cast for the festival features Adam Belvo, Desiree Burch, Isaac Byrne, Edward Chin-Lynn, Roberta Colindrez, Andrew Davies, Julia Davis, Dan Kitrosser, Erin McCarson, Sarah A. Sherman, Joey Stephenson, and more. The productions are produced by Theatre4ThePeople, So Think Tank, and Isaac Byrne.

The Ohio Theatre is one of downtown's oldest theatres. With its high ceilings, hardwood floors, industrial nooks and crannies, and its landmark loading dock doors, the Ohio Theatre is one of the last of the great converted factory spaces in lower Manhattan.

Founded in 1984 by William Hahn and Charles Magistro, back when Soho was considered a scary neighborhood (scary now for different reasons!), the Ohio Theatre is haunted with the benign spirits of New York theatre history , (including the early works of Tony Kushner, Anne Bogart, and Maria Irene Fornes). Soho Think Tank is the resident at the Ohio Theatre since 1995 under Artistic Director Robert Lyons.

Today, the Ohio Theatre is widely recognized as an indispensable pillar of the downtown theatre scene, both a launching pad and a place to land for this generation's most talented theatre artists.
