New York Neo-Futurists Announced New NYC Workshop ImageThe award-winning New York Neo-Futurists will share a little of their well earned wisdom this summer when they offer the workshop, Level Up Your Storytelling: Metaphor, Spectacle, and Discovery. Our workshops have served as a stepping stone to fifteen would-be-Neo-Futurists. This workshop is a twelve hour workshop that stretches over three Saturdays beginning October 6th and wrapping up October 20th; all taking place at Playwrights Rehearsal Studios.

This Neo-Futurist workshop, based in storytelling, is designed to strengthen confidence and communication, while bringing creativity to center stage. It focuses on developing a heightened awareness, delving into metaphor, experimenting with technical, audio, and visual variations, and mining personal experiences in order to discover a greater meaning in everyday life. Participants will quickly generate and perform new work that engages the self, the immediate surroundings, and this world at present. The aim is to analyze storytelling-embracing the personal, the technological, even the abstract, building to a point of bringing more individual creativity into participants' writing and performance. By the end of this workshop, participants will have written, performed and workshopped both individual and collectively-written short plays which will be showcased in an invited performance on the last day of the workshop!

The instructors for this Level Up Your Storytelling workshop will be Neo-Futurists Daniel Mirsky and Rob Neill. Mirsky, who has been a member of the New York Neo-Futurists since 2014, is a performer and playwright. He studied at Texas A&M University where he graduated with a degree in acting & directing. Before moving to NYC, Daniel performed as a guest artist at the Kennedy Center as an Irene Ryan national finalist. Neill is a founding member of the New York Neo-Futurists. He has written, directed, and performed with the Neo-Futurists in both New York and Chicago since 1995. His original plays have appeared at the Ontological, P.S. 122, HERE, BB Kings, Cherry Lane & The Kraine, as well as in Chicago and Los Angeles. He studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and Grinnell College.

If you've found yourself in the Kraine Theater at 10:30 on a Friday or Saturday night, witnessed the Neo-Futurists delivering their barrage of short plays, and said to yourself "I can do that" or "I could never do that," then this workshop is for you. Creative individuals at all levels of experience are encouraged to enroll for a mere $300.

The New York Neo-Futurists are a collective of wildly productive writer-director-performers that create theater that is fusion of sport, poetry and living-newspaper; non-illusory, interactive performance that conveys experiences and ideas as directly and honestly as possible; immediate, irreproducible events at affordable prices. Since opening in Brooklyn in 2004 the New York Neo-Futurists have premiered over 5,000 plays and have become a downtown New York institution. In addition to performing The Infinite Wrench fifty weeks a year and producing Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind from 2004 until 2016, the New York Neo-Futurists have been a stalwart presence in the Off-Off Broadway community, having won numerous Innovative Theatre Awards and Drama Desk Nominations. Most recently, The Infinite Wrench took home the 2017 Innovative Theatre Foundation Award for "Outstanding Performance Art Production".
