New York Deaf Theatre to Launch 37th Season with TITUS Shakespeare Adaptation

New York Deaf Theatre (NYDT) begins its 37th season this month with TITUS.

Fresh from their critically acclaimed performance in the Public Works "Shakespeare in the Park" production of Twelfth Night, and their viral-video "Ham4Ham" collaboration with the Broadway production of Hamilton: An American Musical, NYDT will present a groundbreaking visual-physical adaptation of William Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus from October 30th, through November 13th at the Hudson Guild Theatre (441 West 26th Street). The production will open on Tuesday, November 1st at 7:30PM.

TITUS reimagines Shakespeare's original work in a whole new physical and visual world, needless of spoken English or American Sign Language (ASL). A sharply talented cast of eight actors, four Deaf and four hearing, uses only nonverbal elements such as Mime, Visual Gestural Communication and Visual Vernacular to tell the story. The unique manipulation of light, shadow and projection presents all audiences with a widely accessible experience of Shakespeare's first tragedy, through a new visual language.

The cast of TITUS features Beth Applebaum, Samuel Caraballo, Christina Cogswell, Sarah Folkins, David Jenkins, Jory Murphy, Chris Ogren, and Malik Paris.

Previews begin on October 30th at 2pm and 7:30pm. Opening night is Tuesday, November 1st, with performances on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30PM; Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM; and Saturdays and Sundays at 2PM through November 13th. Tickets can be purchased at NEWYORKDEAFTHEATRE.ORG.
