The New York New Works Theatre Festival, with Days of the Giants LLC, will present the premier of Carrie Robbins' one act play Obsessions of an Art Student in its 3rd annual competition on Wednesday, September 14, 2016.
Obsessions of an Art Student is told from the perspective of an artist at several stages of her career - as a young, struggling freelancer, and a successful artist reflecting on her life. Five monologues explore five peculiar obsessions, including "Born to Draw," the story of Baby, whose nascent urge to draw compels her to smear on the wall above her crib with the only medium available to her - the one she can produce naturally. Mother and Father are horrified by this obsessive behavior, and finally dispatch her to a psychologist. The resulting breakthrough sends Baby on her life's path.
Directed by Luke Tudball (Co-Founding Artistic Director, Tasty Monster Productions), Obsessions of an Art Student stars Jenne Vath (The Actress, 2016 Thespis Summerfest Festival; Le Wedding Dress, NYNWTF 2015; The Winter's Tale, Yorick Theatre; Outstanding Supporting Actress nomination for Sawbones and The Diamond Eater, NYITAWARD, 2014) and Courtney Shaw (Devil and the Deep and The Butterfly, Mint Theatre; Urinetown, Westside Theatre; member Animus Theatre Company) as the older and younger artist, respectively. Eileen F. Haggerty is the Stage Manager (Broadway: Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark; The Boy From Oz; Fosse), with Chris Stratis as Assistant Stage Manager. Emily Hewitt is the Company Manager.
