The Cut Beauty School Inc, The Dexter Family and Temar Underwood proudly present the world premiere of The Brokenhearteds. Directed by Pete Boisvert (Co-Artistic Director/Founder, Nosedive Productions), this political thriller for the 20th century's last generation premieres September 11, 2009.

Peter Graves has been hired as the author of a daily politics blog in the midst of a contentious presidential election. His friend, Ezra, an aide to the President, leaks information to him about a Pakistani man called Mu'Awiyah Fareed that could change the course of the election and history. His new girlfriend, Halle, has thrust him into an agonizing and complicated love triangle with her ex-boyfriend Milan. - And God has begun to speak to him in his dreams. Peter and those around him must find the purpose in their ambitions to shine a generation's light on the world...lest they be left brokenhearted.

"I am a political junkie," says playwright Temar Underwood. "A theme of the last election was about living in a post-racial America. I don't think that we do, but I sometimes feel that black artists are often forced into their work being through the prism of race or the African American experience. I wanted to write a play about the American experience that is not shown through the prism of race; a story about young people under 30 that are trying to find their purpose."

The Brokenhearteds marks Mr. Underwood's New York debut as a playwright, having dedicated recent years to performance, both as an actor (appeared in 4 Vampire Cowboys productions, including the NYIT Award winning Fight Girl Battle World) and accomplished recording artist (Billboard best selling R&B single of 2008 - Inside Out). Led by acclaimed indie director Pete Boisvert (Suburban Peepshow, The Adventures of Nervous Boy - A Penny Dreadful), The Brokenhearteds is the result of a year-long collaboration between the playwright, director and a gifted ensemble of actors, most of which have worked closely together in the Vampire Cowboys ensemble, "I had these specific actors in mind, Pete [Boisvert] and I are working closely; it is most certainly a collaborative partnership. It is a group creation." says Mr. Underwood.

The Brokenhearteds features an ensemble of established New York actors: Jon Hoche* (Pullman Car Hiawatha, Target Margin; Vampire Cowboys), Mike Mihm (WorkShop Theatre, FILM: The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3), Andrea Marie Smith (Infectious Opportunity, Nosedive Productions; Vampire Cowboys), Paco Tolson*(End Days, Ensemble Studio Theatre; Fight Girl Battle World - NYIT Award Nomination) and Temar Underwood (Vampire Cowboys) *Members of AEA.

The Brokenhearteds creative team includes: Pete Boisvert, Director; Sarah Riffle, Costume Design; Kaitlyn Mulligan, Set Design and Daniel Winters, Lighting Design. The production stage manager is Sandy Yaklin. The Brokenhearteds is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, and is made possible in part through generous donations from The Cut Beauty School Inc. and The Dexter Family.
