New Play THE ART OF HIJAB, KOHL BLACK, AND THE RIGHT WAY TO PRAY to Premiere in Brooklyn  Image

The Art of Hijab, Kohl Black and the Right Way to Pray, Sarah Badiyah Sakaan's new play inspired by YouTube beauty and hijab styling tutorials taught by Muslim women, premieres January 11, 2018, at FiveMyles in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, directed by Jessica Silsby Brater.

The play features overlapping stories of the Koran, Torah, and Christian Bible, drawn from the playwright's culturally diverse upbringing in Memphis.

Using multimedia, testimony, nonlinear narrative and culturally diverse and cross-gender casting, Polybe + Seats examines gender roles, faith, identity, and Islam in the United States.

Produced by the award winning Brooklyn theater company Polybe + Seats, The Art of Hijab, Kohl Black and the Right Way to Pray was written by Associate Artistic Director Sarah Badiyah Sakaan, and developed and directed by Artistic Director Jessica Silsby Brater. Produced by Elaine O'Brien and Natalie Robin. Dramaturgy by Meg Savilons.

Performed by Sarah Badiyah Sakaan, Aizzah Fatima (Dirty Paki Lingerie), Denise Turkan (Orange is the New Black), Elaine O'Brien, Nuah Ozryel (Mr.Robot) and Shetal Shah. Designed by Karen Boyer, Gavin Hecker, Cate McCrea, and Leslie Smith. Stage managed by Gabriel Caldwell.

The show will have a limited engagement of 11 performances only at FiveMyles, located at 558 St. Johns Place in Crown Heights, Brooklyn:
