Next in Line Productions LLC, in collaboration with Invisible Wall Productions, is proud to present the new play EXPOSURE at the Gene Frankel Theatre, tonight, September 18, through September 26.
EXPOSURE is inspired by the life and work of American photographer Francesca Woodman, who created a critically acclaimed body of work before killing herself when she was only twenty-two. Exposure has become more than a play about Woodman and her work however - it explores the ideas surrounding Art, and the myths of the "Tortured Artist".
Lead producer Shiva Kalaiselvan was captivated by Woodman's life and work from the moment she was introduced to one of her photos. "I kept asking 'Why?' 'Why photography?' 'Why self-portraits?' 'Why suicide?' And 'Why so young?' I wasn't sure what answers I would find, but I wanted to explore her work more; to try and understand what makes her so fascinating. Exposure tries to find answers to the questions of how artists search, create and survive."
Developed over the summer through a workshop process, Exposure is a devised piece by playwright Laura Zlatos based on work developed by the Ensemble, and directed by Devin Brain. The show features Nico Kiefer, Suzy Kohane*, Lauren Maykut and Sohee Yun. Set Design by Edward T. Morris. Sound Design and Original Music by Matt Otto. Lighting Design by Govin Ruben. Costume Design by Heather Stanley. Dramaturgy by Jolene Noelle. Production Stage Manager is Jessi Cotter. Graphic Design by Eva Mlinar. *Appearing courtesy of Actors' Equity Association. Exposure is an Equity Approved Showcase.
