New Light Theater Project is thrilled to announce that Jacob Perkins has been tapped as Literary Manager. This newly formed position leads the company into its 5th Season.

"We are thrilled to welcome Jacob and feel confident he is the right person to expand our playwright network, including our New Light New Voices award," said Sarah Norris, Artistic Director. "Part of New Light's mission is to continuously grow and collaborate with other artists and companies and Jacob's passion and commitment to the theater community not only compliments this goal, it enhances it."

Jacob Perkins is a writer and performer from South Carolina. His plays include a triptych of texts titled HOME CHURCH PLAY (comprised of HOME CHUCH PLAY, WHERE HAVE YOU GONE, and DAD), RESTAURANT IN D MAJOR, and THE THIRD RAIL. His work has been produced and developed by Williamstown Theater Festival, Page 73/Yale, Soho Rep., Ars Nova, Studio Tisch/NYU, Gibney Dance Center, and Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, among others. He won the inaugural DVRF/O'Henry Emerging Playwrights Award, has been both a Finalist and Semifinalist for the O'Neill National Playwrights Conference, Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Playwrights Realm Writing Fellowship, and received an Honorable Mention for the American Playwriting Foundation's Relentless Award. He is a current member of Ars Nova's Play Group and an alumnus of Soho Rep's Writer/Director Lab and Project Y Playwrights Group. As an actor, he will appear this spring in Alex Borinsky's DING DONG IT'S THE OCEAN at JACK, and he's appeared in new work by Dan Giles, Amy Herzog, Samuel D. Hunter, Lindsay Joy, Boo Killebrew, Matthew Lopez, and many others. www.jacobdperkins.com

"I first encountered Sarah, Mike, and the rest of the New Light ensemble while playing Dean in Dan Giles' BREEDERS," said Jacob Perkins. "The spirit of the company is such that what began as an acting endeavor for me has evolved into an expanded conversation concerning the responsibilities and challenges that arise for theater-makers in our current climate. I'm thrilled to assist with New Light's mission of enabling playwrights to tell the stories of right now and to constantly ask why theater is still a relevant and revelatory pursuit."

New Light Theater Project (Founding Artistic Director, Sarah Norris; Founding Producing Director, Michael Aguirre) is an ensemble-driven theater company that strives to capture the Little Theater Movement (artistry over commerce; producing new and classic works) in the NYC indie theater community. To accomplish this, New Light places the ensemble at the center of the process, where all members, regardless of artistic role, bear weight and voice to the stories selected to tell. New Light devises and develops new work, brings classical texts and revivals to life, and creates a spirit of community for all theatrical collaborations. New Light illuminates other artists and companies through a network of shared resources, such as The Spotlight Series and Darkroom, while cultivating theatrical partnerships around the world.

NLTP is currently producing THE HOLLOWER by Lisa Birkenmeier, a modern haunt-comedy exploring seventeenth-century body witchcraft, directed by Kristy Dodson through June 9 at Access Theater. For more information, visit newlighttheaterproject.com.
