Join this fierce cast of female dancers to process what is often challenging to consider alone: the current state of our nation.
1.1.17 is the physical manifestation of a shared imperative, an urgent physical and mental need to respond to what is happening around us. Based on research, articles, memes, comedians' commentary and our own in-depth analysis and opinions, 1.1.17 has challenged its collaborators to stay engaged. 1.1.17 is a non-linear embodied timeline of the last political year in the U.S. Anchored by that date (January 1s t, 2017) and the feeling of dread that many of us had before anything happened, 1.1.17 physically articulates our side of the conversation on issues like: the definition of a "bona fide relationship", national cultural appropriation of the black vote, Trump's defense of the Alt-right, and Pence's blatant attack on Planned Parenthood. You know, the light stuff.
We hope that this show, with its intense physical rigor, can serve as a catalyst for conversations with you, our community.

Linden Movement Lab and Claire Baum received a 2017/2018 residency from The Tank which will culminate in the shows on April 29t h and May 5t h, 2018.
ABOUT The Tank
The Tank is a non-profit arts presenter serving emerging artists engaged in the pursuit of new ideas and forms of expression. We serve over 1,000 artists every year in over 400 performances, and work across all disciplines, including theater, comedy, dance, film, music, public affairs, and storytelling. Our goal is to foster an environment of inclusiveness and remove the burden of cost from the creation of new work for artists launching their careers and experimenting within their art form. The heart of our services is providing free performance space in our 98 seat proscenium and 56 seat blackbox that we operate in Manhattan, and we also offer a suite of other services such as free rehearsal space, promotional support, artist fees, and much more. We keep ticket prices affordable and view our work as democratic, opening up both the creation and attendance of the arts to all. Since its founding in 2003, artists who have come through The Tank include Alex Timbers, Amy Herzog, Lucy Alibar, Mike Daisey, Reggie Watts, Kyle Abraham, Andrew Bujalski, We Are Scientists, and tens of thousands of others. www.thetanknyc.org
