Joey and Borg bought a storage locker at auction. Guess who it belonged to...
A hilarious and heartbreaking account of two New York Neos, Joey and Borg, who embark on an urban archeological adventure. After purchasing two storage lockers up for auction in the Bronx, Joey and Borg painstakingly examined and archived the over 1500 items they contained. Now it is time to unravel the mystery of what happened to their former owners. LOCKER 4173b is a striking look at the aftermath of "The Great Recession." The financial meltdown just got very personal.
"It took us over six months to catalogue all 1500+ items," shares co-creator Christopher Borg. "Many weekends with a small group of volunteers around a table full of laptops and boxes and bags of ‘stuff,' much of which was the kind of thing we all throw away at a good spring cleaning. But taken together, and looked at from afar, it paints the picture of a life, and a life examined is a life worthwhile."
LOCKER 4173b features Christopher Borg, Joey Rizzolo and Yeauxlanda Kay (The All American GenderF*ck Cabaret; HBO's Def Poetry Jam). The short films are by Sydney Buchan. The dramaturg is Amy Jensen.
Christopher Borg (writer/performer) is an actor, writer director, who lives in Manhattan. In addition to being a performer, Borg has been a stand-up comedian, improv artist, dialect coach, cellist, and back-up vocalist for the now-defunct indie band "Utah Mafia." An ensemble member of the award-winning New York Neo-Futurists since 2006, Borg is also a member of New York companies TOSOS as well as Off-Broadway's Emerging Artists Theatre - with whom he has performed in or directed over 14 productions. Recent Off-Broadway appearances include the 2009 critically acclaimed sold-out hit and the subsequent re-mounting of Penny Pennyworth and originating the role of Eddie in the 2008 hit The Play About The Naked Guy. Accolades include a 2009 New York Innovative Theatre Award for the autobiographical (Not) Just a Day Like Any Other (New York Neo-Futurists), 2 OOBR Awards: Doric Wilson's A Perfect Relationship and What the F***? (TOSOS II), 2 Spotlight On Awards and nominations for a GLAAD Media Award (Bernadette & the Butcher of Broadway - TOSOS) and an HX Award, among others. Other NY credits include Modern Living (LaMama), The Death of Griffin Hunter (Inverse Theatre), The Sabbath Queen (Storahtelling), Bury the Dead (Stage Door Acting Ensemble); Nothing (Ontological) and The Crackwalker (Soho Rep). Borg was originally trained in the classics at the Shakespeare Theatre in DC under the tutelage of Michael Kahn (Julliard) and at the University of Utah's Actor Training Program under Kenneth Washington (The Guthrie). He played Paul in the romantic New York short film What Are The Odds (a film fest favorite).
Joey Rizzolo (writer/performer) is a poet, carpenter, teacher, and performer and father to a 15-year-old autistic boy with perfect pitch. In addition to writing and performing as a Neo-Futurist (where he and Borg can often be seen in The Neo-Futurists' twice-weekly East Village staple, Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind), Joey works with numerous other companies, imminently the Black River Theater Co (where he will play...ahem...Hamlet). Joey also works with children in theatre; currently, Joey is part of a two-person repertory touring company in Princeton that produces kid-friendly adaptations of literature. Recently, Joey was a playwright-in-residence at the Kennedy Center, co-writing a production for the Crossroads Theater (where he worked previously on the Tony Award winning production of And The World Laughs With You). He teaches playwriting & performance to special-needs kids in his home state of New Jersey where he is also very, very good with a hammer.
Justin Tolley (director) is an Assistant Film Editor by day and a Playwright/Director by night. Some of his theatrical works have appeared at the Actor's Theater of Louisville, The Ontological Hysteric Incubator Series, and the New South for the New Century Young Playwright's Festival. He is a founding company member of the New York Neo-Futurists, writing/directing/performing in Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind from 2004 to 2008.
