George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart have set their first musical collaboration with Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in New York's Central Park on July 4th (1937). Peggy (Laurie Hymes) and Phil (Brent Di Roma) are afraid to marry before he gets a raise which his boss says "won't happen until Roosevelt balances The Budget!" In an extended dream sequence, FDR (Steve Brady) assures them, and the Depression-weary audience, that they can have hope in the future. This despite the political machinations of his Cabinet - Frances Perkins (Donna Coney Island), James A. Farley (Peter Cormican), Cordell Hull (John Alban Coughlan), and Henry Morgenthau (Rob Lorey) and the legal obstacles presented by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (Roger Rifkin). Eleanor Roosevelt (Lydia Gladstone) is supportive as are the other members of the cast - Matthew Bauman, Sara Jayne Blackmore, Matthew Conti, Merissa Czyz, Emily Glick, Jeff Horst, Michael Mott, and Kari Ringer.
