May Treuhaft-Ali's RESISTANCE Makes World Premiere with Semicolon Theatre Company

Semicolon Theatre Company will present the World Premiere of May Treuhaft-Ali's RESISTANCE, directed by Maia Nelles-Sager.

The production will run tonight, August 10, through August 13 at the Wild Project (195 E. 3rd Street) with performances tonight, August 10 at 8pm, Friday, August 11 at 8pm, Saturday, August 12 at 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday, August 13 at 2pm. Tickets are available online.

Libby, a 15-year-old girl under pressure from her mother and "specialist" to lose weight, starts taking classes at a popular spin studio in a gentrifying neighborhood. As she learns about herself and the world around her, the absurdity of weight loss is shown through a series of fantasies, doctor's appointments, spin classes.

The cast will feature Shauna Bloom*, Marissa Harris, Miranda Rizzolo, Kyla Sylvers, and Julie T. Pham*. The production team will include Lighting Design by Judy Kagel, Dramaturgy by Rachel Sobelsohn, Sound Design by Hope Fourie, Props by Jess Cummings and Scenic Design by Nola Werlinich. Stage Manager Kyra Button and Assistant Stage Manager Yve Carruthers. This production is appearing as an Equity Approved Showcase.

RESISTANCE is presented by a production team made up entirely of artists aged 21 and under. Its team stands apart as 100% female-identified.

Founded by two high school students in 2013, Semicolon Theatre Company seeks to create a professional space where theatre artists and administrators under twenty-one can hone their crafts, collaborate with like-minded peers, and develop artistic works relevant to their own lives. The company has produced two separate seasons at reputable Off-Off Broadway theaters in Manhattan, once at The New York International Fringe Festival (#BLESSED, August 2016), and has collaborated with dozens young artists, administrators, designers, and technicians in the past year alone.
