Serpent Club Theater is grateful to receive the support of over 130 sponsors to showcases Matthew Gasda's new play, Ardor, which runs for sixteen shows between Nov 5 to Dec 3rd.

Ardor is Gasda's most ambitious play to date: a nine character ensemble, where each character is individuated, complicated, and alive. "Ardor is ontologically and linguistically ambitious" Gasda explains, "it attempts to put pressure on our own sense of ourselves not as beings in the world, but as beings who use language to define the world they live in."

The cast and crew agrees. Ladi Akinwande (Fred) describes why he joined the Ardor team: "It's an actor's dream to work on a superb script with smart and beautiful people who leave everything at the door and give their all. These are the kind of stories I want to tell, and the kind of people I want to work with."

Inspired by the works of Shakespeare and Chekhov on stage; Malick and Bergman in film; and Joyce and Tolstoy in prose, Gasda is quickly rising as playwright, director, and novelist. Ardor is the fourth play by Matthew Gasda to make its debut in New York 2016, following his original dramas Messages and Denmark, and his award-winning adaptation of The Bacchae. Gasda also directed Howard Brenton's 1983 drama, Bloody Poetry, this past August at The Brooklyn Art Library, and is the author of two well-received novels: Moon on Water and Sonata for Piano and Violin.

This must see production, staged in the spirit of Peter Brook and Andre Gregory, will be one of the most powerful and memorable off-Broadway shows of the year.
