The Martini Theatre Company will present Rajiv Joseph's Gruesome Playground Injuries at The Alchemical Theatre Laboratory from June 10th - 12th. Directed by Martini Theatre Company's Artistic Director Tyler Spicer, Gruesome Playground Injuries is about two childhood friends' relationship over the course of 30 years. All proceeds from the show will benefit Children of Promise, NYC.
Newcomers Kathleen Kennedy and John Manolis star in this production, with set design by Chris Thompson, costume design by Kathryn Bailey, lighting design by Benjamin Ehrenreich, sound design by Kate Marvin, and Carmen Quinones stage managing. Director Spicer mentions that "The inspiration to take on Gruesome Playground Injuries was because it embodies what we, at Martini Theatre Company, look for in projects; it takes a poetic structure and uses it to address immediate issues in our community. Rajiv (Joseph) explores the moments where Doug and Kayleen reach out and try to connect but are pushed apart because of the way society has formed them. I see people struggle in making these basic connections because of the way society has formed them on a daily basis, which is why we wanted to partner with a charity that is dealing directly with these issues today. Children of Promise's team are on the front lines of shaping the upcoming generation and making sure no one falls through the cracks."
Gruesome Playground Injuries runs June 10th at 8pm, June 11th at 7 & 9pm, and June 12th at 3pm at the Alchemical Theatre Lab on 104 w 14th St. Tickets are $30 with all proceeds going to Children of Promise and can be found at web.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/959152.
