Atlas Theater will present Illuminating Veronica by Rogelio Martinez, with Michael Sexton directing. It will run July 26th through August 4th at The Atlas Theater (111 Second Ave., between 6th and 7th ~ 3rd floor).
"It's 1961. Fidel has turned Havana upside down. Veronica's family has fled the country, leaving her behind to find a new family. Pregnant and ready to participate in whatever Fidel throws her way, she is not fully prepared for everything the revolution has in store. Illuminating Veronica is a play about betrayal and hope, that looks at Castro's Cuba, not as a demonic state, nor as a perfect paradise, but as a work in progress," state press notes.
Hannah Ryan Smith is assistant director, with lighting design by Driscoll Otto, costume and scenic design by Sean Tribble, sound design by Emily Wright, with Amy Pedigo as assistant costume designer and Jenni Bowman as stage manager.
Featured in this AEA Showcase Production are Alec Beard, Chris DeOni, Michael Earle Fajardo, MacKenzie Meehan, Christina Pumariega and Maria Elena Ramirez.
