On the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 27th, Soho Rep. notified AFO (All For One Theater) that they were ceasing performances at their theater on 46 Walker Street immediately, and that performances of AFO's production of MY NAME IS GIDEON..., for which AFO had rented 46 Walker from September 26 - October 31, would have to be cancelled.
Producing Director Nicholas Cotz broke the news to his staff, who had just moved in AFO's largest and most intricate show to date. The crew and designers were in the midst of Cue-to-Cue when Cotz made the announcement to the company. Irving and Cotz embraced and cried, and broke the news to the rest of the production staff.
Later that night the crew and designers rallied and ran the intricate parts of the show they had worked so hard on. Gideon sang many of his songs, taking requests from the production team. They ran the most elaborate moments of the show, wondering if they would be able to translate into a new venue. The artists mourned and celebrated a beautiful show that will soon rise again at another venue and a space that enjoyed a 25-year run as one of the most exciting venues in all of NYC.
Soho Rep. is working with AFO find a new home for MY NAME IS GIDEON... AFO had rented 46 Walker for their production that was set to begin performances in the space on Thursday, September 29th and run through October 30th.
