Young Emory is an effeminate 11-year-old boy who lives on a farm with his chain smoking Nanna and his only friend, a depressed chicken about to be processed in Joshua Conkel's Milk Milk Lemonade, a new show described as "a bitterly funny exploration of gender, sexuality, life, death and the human body," opening Saturday, September 19, at the PIT Loft Theatre, 154 West 29th Street.
Directed by Joseph Hayward for Dalliant Productions ("We celebrate diversity and strive to bring brave and important conversations to the stage, such as LGBTQ rights, bullying & drug addiction. Our commitment to casting champions equality and is a true reflection of the powerful diversity of our society," according to a company statement) and Jessica Kazamel, Milk Milk Lemonade is one of the first shows to enter the new PIT Loft Theatre at 154 West 29th Street in New York, running September 19-21.
Starring as Emory is John McNulty, with Tym Moss taking on the role of the hilariously wicked Nanna: "Nanna wishes Emory would get his head out of the clouds, stop choreographing ribbon stick dance numbers, and be more like Elliot, the boy down the road with a penchant for burning things. But Emory and Elliot have a relationship -- just not one Nanna would expect or approve of. With absurd, poignant dialog and brutal characterizations, Milk Milk Lemonade is a bitterly funny exploration of gender, sexuality, life, death, and the human body."
Choreographed by Broadway's Adam Rogers (An American in Paris, Cinderella and Chaplin), the cast features John McNulty as Emory, Tym Moss as Nanna, Olga Elliott as Elliott, Jessica Kazamel as Linda and BRandon Looney as Lady in the Leotard.
Performances are at 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 19; 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 20; and 8 p.m. on Monday, September 21. Tickets are $10 each.
