Throes Theater has announced New York premiere of MIKE, written and directed by Alexandra Zelman-Doring. MIKE begins performances on Tuesday, June 23 for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 28. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Sunday at 7 PM. Performances take place at HERE (145 6th Avenue; enter on Dominick, one block south of Spring). The regular ticket price is $15. Daniel finally got a real job, but now he's obsessed with a character-building app. His wife, Cynthia, is bubbling over with excitement about her punky younger sister Fanny coming for a visit. When Fanny and her boyfriend Abe arrive with a surprise, the secret pasts of all the characters -- including the one with the headless chicken -- come to light. Based on true events of a headless chicken named Mike and the illegal adoption agency run by Gertrude Pikanen, MIKE features a folk-pop score with lyrics by Alexandra Zelman-Doring and music by Jodi Ferguson, who also performs live on guitar and ukulele.

MIKE is produced by the Drama Desk-nominated Throes Theater, which has been widely praised by New York Magazine, New York Theater Review, and New York Arts.

The cast features Gore Abrams (Let Me Make you a Martyr w. Marilyn Manson), Leo Defriend, Jodi Ferguson, Giulia Martinelli, and Vanessa Rose.

Alexandra Zelman-Doring (playwright/director) is a recent winner of the 2013 Financial Times/Bodley Head prize. She is the author of numerous plays including To Hold an Apple (59E59 Theaters and Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011) and Drama Desk-nominated Act Before You Speak (Flea Theater, 2012), which Scott Brown of New York Magazine called "A lovely little darkling rite...what off-Broadway connoisseurs simply call Black Box heaven." Her last play, Halfway Through the Story (Access Theater, 2013), was widely praised.

This production is a part of SubletSeries@HERE, HERE's curated rental program, which provides artists with subsidized space and equipment, as well as technical support.
