Maximalista, playing this weekend at The Hudson Guild Theatre, has been praised by the Huffington Post as "Zesty yet also smart and sympathetic." This one act play follows Davi, who is a lover, painter, mother, and dreamer trying to hide her struggle with mental health and hyper-sexuality. Her journey is one both full of pain and pleasure as she searches for that much needed release, while fighting to reconnect with her estranged family. It is a meditation on art, family, and how far people will go to escape their inner demons.
The play is written by social activist playwright Ash Sanborn, directed by up and coming director Cammerron Baits, and stars the vibrant and vulnerable Megan Grace Martinez. Martinez's multilayered performance is matched by her equally captivating castmates playing family members, therapists, landlords, and the vast array of hookups.
This show has two remaining performances as part of the New York Theater Festival's Summerfest: Saturday September 1st @ 1pm and Sunday September 2nd @ 6pm at the Hudson Guild Theater.
