The Summer I Disappeared is a unique theatre experience inspired by a series of interviews conducted with two surviving veterans of the Freedom Rides; Ellen Ziskind, now residing in Brookline MA, & Paul Breines, now residing in Boston MA. Inspired by the true stories of these individuals and the choice that they made to stand up for civil rights in the face of danger and uncertainty, The Summer I Disappeared asks 'What would YOU do in such a seminal moment?"
In The Summer I Disappeared, a group of poets, musicians, and civil rights activists wrestle with how to respond to the tragic events occurring on May 14th, 1961. You are in the experience with them and period dress is required.
Thomas Kee and Eric Ruiter direct a veteran cast of NY performers- in Boston for Three public performances only before debuting the piece of their unique brand of story driven immersive theatre in NYC. Prepare to enter 1961- that means dressing for the period as well as shaking all anachronisms and delving into the world as a guest at Joyce Gertzinger's salon. For one night, you get to be a member of the Heretic Club as an invited guest. You'll join these Seven people on a night that will change lives, define a movement, and awake a nation.
