Kyoung's Pacific Beat and The Tank (Meghan Finn and Rosalind Grush, Artistic Directors) will co-produce the World Premiere of PILLOWTALK, written and directed by Kyoung H. Park at The Tank (312 West 36th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues) January 11-27, as part of The Exponential Festival. Set in Brooklyn in 2017, PILLOWTALK brings to life one night in the lives of Sam and Buck, a recently married interracial couple.
Celebrating #loveisradical, Kyoung's Pacific Beat has partnered with Community Partners API Rainbow Parents of PFLAG NYC, BAAD! (Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance), CUNY's Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies (CLAGS), GAPIMNY (Gay Asian Pacific Islander Men of New York), and Indie Theater Fund, along with Cultural Partner the Korean Cultural Center, and Official Media Partner Culturebot with support from Peoplemovr, Asian/ Pacific/ American Institute at NYU and ART/NY-NYSCA Creative Opportunity Fund, to center the voices of queer people of color through a series of long-table conversations created in collaboration with our partners to build community, resilience, and resistance.
"PILLOWTALK has been developed in New York City for the past four years, in deep conversations with our local, queer community of color. It is an honor to share our stage with our Community Partners and Supporters in recognition of their tremendous service in support of minority and LGBQT rights through advocacy, scholarship and the arts. PILLOWTALK would not have come this far without community and this Long Table Conversation Series is an essential part of our project," said Kyoung H. Park, Artistic Director of Kyoung's Pacific Beat.
A long table-conceived by Lois Weaver-is a special form of discussion open to the audience in which viewers can feel free to rotate between moving up to the table when they wish to join the conversation and retuning to their seat when they wish to listen. Purchasing a ticket to any PILLOWTALK performance grants you free access to our long tables. PILLOWTALK's Long Table Series is curated by Shannon Matesky and Kyoung H. Park and each event will follow 15 minutes after each listed performance date.
