"adrienne maree brown's definition of pleasure, 'pure aliveness and actually being present for the world around you', inspires us! This is the core of transformative musical theatre and poetry, and we are thrilled to launch our seasons with this collaboration." - Artistic Directors Mei Ann Teo and Jeremy Karafin
Feeling Good: Pleasure As Ritual Resistance includes projection design by Lisa Renkel and Brian Pacelli, lighting design by Kryssy Wright, production stage management by Ellen Mischinski, and audio production and engineering by Ray Archie of Notes to the Soul. The band will be co-led by Tariq Al-Sabir and Juliette Jones of Rootstock Republic with Tariq as the music director and Juliette as the arranger.
A part of Poetic Theater Productions' residency with Judson Memorial Church, Feeling Good is presented by Judson Arts Wednesdays as a part of their "Magic Time" Series. Judson Arts Wednesdays is the completely free, completely uncensored creative arm of Judson Memorial Church, a sacred and profane place that has nurtured artists and their work for decades. Judson Memorial Church is one of the few early venues of the original off-off Broadway movement and was the home of the historic Judson Poets' Theater.
Poetic Theater Productions seeks to define the modern genre of "poetic theater" by connecting and fostering a community of artists who are passionately creating relevant and accessible work and reinvigorating a conscious theater of language. Poetic Theater Productions offers resources and opportunities for poets, playwrights, and theater artists to create new work and see it through to production via educational workshops, developmental readings and performance. PTP seeks out and creates opportunities to connect with communities affected by the issues of topic within our productions through collaborative projects and exchanges of art and ideas. poetictheater.com
