Sp Theatre Productions is pleased to announce that Jocelyn Sawyer, former Playwrights Horizons' directing resident and Lincoln Center Director's Lab member will be taking over the helm of Still Lives, a new play written by Paul Hancock.  Previously announced director Kareem Fahmy unexpectedly left the production after he received a Van Lier Directing Fellowship with Second Stage Theatre.

"Still Lives is a sexually charged story exploring the desperate longings of individuals trying to connect. Patrick, a visual artist, is haunted by his past. Sondra, looking for extra cash and a new place to live, has convinced him to use her as his model.  Sondra quickly realizes that Patrick is not as interested in her amorous advances as he is in the lines and curves of her body but while he obsessively draws her, she slowly chips away at the carefully constructed walls Patrick is struggling to protect. Throughout, next-door neighbor Monica tries to salvage her marriage to Dragon, whose life is fading into a haze of drugs and fantasy, while the seductive, symbiotic twins, Cindy and Cheryl, help Sondra further insert herself into Patrick's life. By the time Sondra realizes she wants more from her relationship with Patrick, it's the twins who've become the object of his affection and Sondra's struggle to regain his attention leads to unintended consequences," state press notes.

Paul Hancock's plays include Still Lives, Theories, The Insanity of Sherlock Holmes and Grace Notes. His plays have been produced as a part of Notes From The Underground and Project Playwright 2.  Readings of his plays have taken place at the 78th Street Theatre Lab, the Ensemble Studio Theatre, Center For The Performing Arts in New Jersey and the Access Theatre. A graduate of Temple University, with a background in the visual arts, he participated in exhibitions and curator shows for other artists before focusing his attention on writing.

Jocelyn Sawyer has directed new work for Reverie Productions (Havana Bourgeois) and for Six Figures' Artists of Tomorrow, NYC Fringe, Estrogenius,  Queer@HERE, BAX's Women's Performance and American Globe Theatre Festivals.  She has assistant directed at Playwrights Horizons (where she was a directing resident last season), The Flea and Rattlestick Theaters and the Summer Play Festival.  She is a member of Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab, Directors Lab West and Actors' Equity Association.

Casting for Still Lives will commence in February and the company and design team will be announced shortly.
