Founded in 2016, TAMASHA: A FESTIVAL OF SOUTH ASIAN PERFORMING ARTS, is the only cross-discipline arts festival dedicated to South Asian artists in North America. Those companies include LCT3/Lincoln Center, New Georges, New York Theatre Workshop, Playwrights Horizons, Premiere Stages at Kean University, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, The Public Theater, The Movement Theatre Company and WP Theater.
"In our current climate, we believe it's more important than ever to present and produce work that upholds the ideas and values that are in serious jeopardy in both America and in the world. We believe we must tell the stories of groups that are being marginalized," said Arpita Mukherjee. "Our focus on intersectional stories by and about women* is the cornerstone of our belief in art as a way of education, resistance, and affirmation. We are proud to present a season filled with artists' of extraordinary talents, highlighting the immense breadth and scope of work by women*."
In addition to Tamasha, the 2018/19 Season will also include productions of The Music In My Blood, by Shubhra Prakash and Sonalee Hardikarand directed by Hardikar; Romeo And Juliet: A Queer Female* Reimagination directed by Molly Houlahan; and Eh Dah? Questions For My Father, by Aya Aziz and directed by Arpita Mukherjee.
Hypokrit Theatre Company is also proud to announce its selection as a 2018-2019 Domestic Partner at WP Theater. WP Theater's Domestic Partner Program is focused on providing support to fellow organizations that are developing work by female-identified artists. Each year, WP Theater welcomes companies into residency at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre, providing them with rehearsal and theater space at a reduced rate, as well as artistic, marketing, ticketing and other institutional support, and present their work to WP audiences.

A story about a music that demands great sacrifice from those who dare to pursue it. The Music In My Blood crosses the boundaries of time and space to bring together Prema and Walter, two people bound and frayed by their love of music. Fleeing the demands of being an Indian classical singer, Prema chooses to pursue a history degree in New York City. She discovers the writing of Walter Kaufmann, a Jewish man who developed a devotion to Indian classical music when he found refuge in India during WWII. Co-written by Shubhra Prakash and Sonalee Hardikar, The Music In My Blood begins performances June 6th, 2018 at American Theatre of Actors.

ABOUT HYPOKRIT THEATER COMPANY
Hypokrit (n.): Actor (Ancient Greek)
At Hypokrit Theatre Company, our mission is to encourage artistic inquiry by providing artists from minority communities a platform for their voices and work. We work towards shaping and molding the artists of tomorrow by encouraging original and groundbreaking voices that bring an innovative approach to the arts.
Founded in 2014 by Arpita Mukherjee and Shubhra Prakash, Hypokrit made waves by bringing a radically reimagined Bollywood version ofRomeo and Juliet to Access Theater, earning the company a certificate of special recognition from Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney. Since then, Hypokrit has produced How to Succeed as an Ethnically Ambiguous Actor starring Zenobia Shroff from The Big Sick first at Paradise Factory and then in co-production with The Castillo Theatre and Eh Dah? Questions for my Father at NYMF. Eh Dah? was named one of the top 10 musicals at NYMF by Playbill and Time Out, and was reviewed by the New York Times as "a celebration." It is slated for a run in Spring 2019.
Hypokrit strives to embody the rich cultural complexity of the world we live in through our work. Our work is culturally specific, but ultimately about the universality of the human experience. We are a company exclusively run by and wholly dedicated to minority communities.
