It's the first kiss between two young men ever staged in a major production and it is making its return to the stage for this year's Fresh Fruit Festival with some changes, new verse and poetry by the author, Frederick Kirwin and presented as a flashback of sorts.
Where's hope? Where's Hope? Oh, God, Where's Hope? is a tragicomedy of revenge, ambition and sibling rivalry set in Florida, 1967. It is about two boys falling in love with the Greek Myth of Apollo and Hyacinth and has a love triangle, a midnight storytelling, a drowning and a murder/suicide. Framed within a thirty-year flashback, the play is poetic in its depth, comedic in its discourse, and tragic in the end.
"This is the result of my partner's restarting my non-existent career three years ago, when he organized two readings of my play "Talking About Diana", produced twice in London in 1998, in which five New Yorkers talk about the death of Princess Diana in various ways, from indifference to lunatic adoration, and for which I received a death threat; recently, he organized two readings of "Where's Hope?", submitted it to two festivals, both of which accepted it, and here we are, in the Fresh Fruit." says the author, Frederick Kirwin.
