Following a wildly successful run at the New York Theatre Festival, producers Keena McDonald and Patricia Tierney, in association with Michael Saguaros, announce the Off-Broadway Premiere production of a new, deeply-relevant musical, Humanity's Child: A Musical for Today!
The Musical tells the story of a group of young women navigating the complexities of gender relations in the 21st century through an international cast of thirteen "20-somethings," "Humanity's Cousins," among them a young woman, "Humanity's Child," who deeply feels the stresses of contemporary life and is genuinely afraid for her future as she faces a world of dissonance, division, and danger. Fortunately, in the tradition of wise-women counselors, The Giver offers her support and guidance, encouraging her to participate joyfully in life, to connect with others, and to speak with a common voice for what is right!
The cast of Humanity's Child features Natassha Amalia, Momoyo Arai, Sarah Bialkin, Cora Jean-Baptiste, Jenn Nicole Keanini, Leica Lucien, Refilwe Maitisa, Genevieve Inez McCarthy, Savannah McManus, Hanako Morikawa, Annie Raczko, Madison Wyatt as Humanity's Cousins, with Keena McDonald as The Giver and introducing Lizzy Moreno as Humanity's Child. The production is stage managed by Laura Clinton.
KEENA MCDONALD (The Giver, Artistic Director, Choreographer, Co-Producer). A poet and playwright, Keena earned her degree in Theatre and Dance from Barnard College/Columbia University. She danced in the International Dance Festival with Vanich and was also featured on the PBS series "The Electric Company." She appeared as God in Noah and his Sons and held an ensemble role in the American premiere of the controversial play A Touch of Brightness by Partap Sharma, both staged at Harlem's Aaron Davis Hall. She believes that reminding humans about their shared connections is an effective means to bring about positive change. Humanity's Child is personally relevant, globally timely and ever-unfolding.
PATRICIA TIERNEY (Managing Director, Co-Producer) was born in Argentina and immigrated to the United States as a teenager. She earned her BA in Elementary Education (CCSU) and her Master's degree in Multi-Cultural Education (UConn). She's been a happy teacher for the last 30 years. As co-producer, Patricia hopes to share the vision of empowerment and loving energy. She focuses all her efforts on promoting a world that respects all life on this beautiful and mysterious planet.
