In association with off-Broadway's Out of the Box Theatrics (OOTB) an immersive production of the musical, How the Westons Won, will be presented December 14-23, at the Jefferson Market Library, an historic Victorian Gothic building in Greenwich Village.
Directed by Joe Barros (Bastard Jones, Gigi, Cagney), How The Westons Won is set for a full production following workshop presentations in February at the New York Film Academy and in March 2017 at nancy manocherian's the cell theatre. The creative team also features Associate Director/Choreographer Luis Villabon and Music Director William Cody Dry. Orchestrations are by Tom Kochan. Assistant Orchestrator is Alexander Tom. Production Design by Bianca Nagel and Production Stage Management by Theresa S. Carroll. Featured in the cast is Sydney Shuck Brian Charles Rooney, Jonathan David Steffins, Jen Olivares, Danny Bevins, John E. Elliott, Heather Jane Rolff, Genesis Adelia Collado, Andres Gallardo Bustillo, Nathan Richardson, Melody Allegra Berger, Ry Armstrong, Bethany Xan Jeffery, James Roberts IV, and Timothy Yang. Casting is by Daryl Eisenberg and Ally Beans. Set to a contemporary rock score with odes to Western musicals, the musical portrays children dealing with a mom's opioid addiction. This new musical tells the story of two teenagers who accidentally bring a Wild West toy diorama to life with Buffalo Bill, General George Custer, Geronimo, Calamity Jane, and a young Native American woman. Still struggling with the death of their father and their mother’s subsequent opioid addiction, they embark on an extraordinary adventure to mend their broken family. How The Westons Won features book and lyrics by R.C. Staab and music by Aaron Latina. Staab's musicals and plays include Dumb Luck (winner: TRU Voices New Musical Series 2017, Music Theatre of Madison's 2017 Festival of New Musicals), and F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Diamond as Big as the Ritz (recently featured in an industry reading).
