Guerrilla Shakespeare Theatre Presents THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, 3/17

Currently celebrating its 3rd season, the Guerrilla Shakespeare Project (GSP)  presents William Shakespeare's TAMING OF THE SHREW directed by Kim Martin-Cotton  (recently seen on Broadway opposite Al Pacino in THE MERCHANT OF VENICE) with  previews beginning March 17 prior to an official press opening of March 20 at  the Medicine Show Theatre (549 West 52nd Street) in Manhattan.

THE TAMING OF THE SHREW is Williams Shakespeare's fast-paced tale of independent  women and confirmed bachelors. In the Guerrilla Shakespeare Project's  interpretation of this classic romantic comedy, they blend traditions of  classical performance with updated concepts of design and style. As they do with  each of their shows, GSP treats works by Shakespeare as though they were written  yesterday, and interprets the sometimes confusing language to make it accessible  to all. GSP's goal is to create inventive and immediate Contemporary Theatre  from classical works, without losing the power and meaning behind it.

Directed by Kim Martin-Cotten - a GSP alum since 2008 - who was recently seen  making her Broadway debut in THE MERCHANT OF VENICE opposite Al Pacino. Ms.  Martin-Cotton's additional credits include, for GSP -- the title role in JULIUS  CEASAR, directed by GSP Artistic Director Jordan Reeves, as part of the New York  International Fringe Festival; the National Tour of AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY; KING  LEAR with Stacy Keach; the premier of GHOSTWRITTEN by Naomi Izuka, Actors  Theatre of Louisville; and MACBETH, Shakespeare Theatre D.C. Her directing  credits include: STATE OF UNDRESS at 59E59; as well as DEATH OF A SALESMAN and  PROOF at Cider Mill Playhouse.

The cast of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW features Geordie Broadwater, Kimiye Corwin,  Ginger Eckert, Jordan Kaplan, Paul Klementowicz, Michael Larson, Madeleine Maby,  Jordan Reeves, Jacques Roy and Tom Schwans.

Design team for THE TAMING OF THE SHREW is Jacques Roy and Jordan Reeves (Set  Design), Melissa Mizell (Lighting Design), Kim Martin-Cotton (Costume & Sound  Design). Stage Manager is DarrylLee VanOudenhove.

Founded in 2005, GSP is one of the young companies born out of collaborations in  the graduate training program of the Brown/Trinity Consortium at Brown  University. GSP's work has been called "goofy and fun and pleasantly  contemporary" by Sam Thielman in Variety, and the company members have been  described as "blessed with oratory and comedic skills (while) the production
remains true to Shakespeare's language... (they) speak with ease, the prose  rolling off their glib tongues" by Christina Ku in Show Business Weekly. GSP prizes skillful use of language and athletic storytelling, and the ensemble aims  to blow apart the audience's conceptions of what Shakespeare has been by  creating something new with each project they undertake.

Recently incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, GSP's mission  states: with passion born of rebellion we seek out the heart of the matter,  battling against complacency in ourselves, our audience, and the American  theatre. We struggle always for a passionate simplicity, for a visceral  connection between actor and audience; only through this connection is great  theatre possible. This is our cause. Performances of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW run March 17 through April 3 at The  Medicine Show Theatre (549 West 52nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues).  Closest subway stops are the C/E to 50th Street or the N/R to 49th Street.  Performance schedule is Thursdays at 7:30pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and  Sundays at 3pm.
