Along with the dog days of August Gorilla Rep's annual FREE performances of William Shakespeare's classic comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream, returns to NYC. The fun family-friendly show can be seen at the Southwest corner of Washington Square Park every Thursday through Sunday at 8 p.m. from August 11 through September 4, 2016. The production is being remounted by long-time company member actor Greg Petrol, who also plays Oberon, as he has for years. As is the Gorilla Rep tradition since its inception in 1989, the performance will be immersive and mobile. Each performance moves from place to place as it goes from scene-to-scene with the action! Audiences are advised to wear sneakers and/or comfortable shoes.

It's Gorilla Rep's 14th COMPLETELY FREE immersive enactment of the Shakespeare's cherished production in Washington Square Park, which New York Time's critic Ben Brantley has called, "a downtown tradition."

Christopher Carter Sanderson, Founding Artistic Director of Gorilla Rep, has directed and designed this innovative production since 1989. Sanderson's creation, which launched the immersive theatre movement, has lectured and written extensively on the aesthetics of interactive theater. A graduate of New York University's renowned Tisch School of Drama and the prestigious Yale School of Drama, Christopher Carter Sanderson has over the years worked with some of the theatrical world's most prominent playwrights, as well as teaching at several distinguished dramatic academic institutions in the US. His book on the company is available from renowned academic press Routledge.

Founded in 1989 by Christopher Carter Sanderson, Gorilla Rep (www.gorillarep.org) continues to provide high-quality theatrical productions of classical dramatic works combined with a contemporary immediacy COMPLETELY FREE to New York City audiences.
