Hope Is..., a benefit performance, shares stories through modern and contemporary dance. All proceeds from the cost of admission will go towards setting up a clinical trial to provide genetic testing of BRCA 1 & 2, breast and ovarian cancer, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Hope Is..., a onetime memorable multimedia performance will be held at 7pm on August 13, 2016 at Gibney Dance - Agnes Varis Center for the Performing Arts 280 Broadway (entrance at 53A Chambers) -Studio D.
Cancer impacts millions of lives; according to the American Cancer Society there will be 1,685,210 new cases of cancer in 2016 alone. This event is to give hope to the people and families that need it the most. Researching genetics helps scientists and doctors understand cancer development, which helps to create new cancer treatments for the future. For those who have the cancer gene, preventable treatments become available that can save their life.
"The second I started sharing my project with others, I became present to a whole new realm of possibilities and felt moved by dancers sharing how cancer has affected them," said Geena Russo, producer of Hope Is.... "We all have a story; we want to show you ours. I am most looking forward to this project because of the impact it can have. "

Bringing the dance community together to affect another community is the vision for Hope Is.... The performances tell stories of love, joy, and triumph in difficult times. Performers include Jessie King from Catherine Gallant/ Dances by Isadora, Audrey Rachelle and Alex Jenkins of AnA collaborations, Geena Russo from BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance Education Staff, Sarah Eichler from Jessica Lang Dance, and Kimberly Giannelli from Ballets with a Twist.

"Space for this event has been generously donated by Gibney Dance - an organization that brings movement where it otherwise wouldn't exist."
