Jerry Herman was one of the most successful songwriters for the musical theater in his generation, providing music and lyrics to three long-running Broadway shows -- Hello Dolly!, Mame, and La Cage aux Folles -- as well as four other Broadway productions between 1961 and 1983. He first burst on the Broadway scene as its youngest creator of music and lyrics with the immensely successful Milk And Honey , and was immediately nominated for a Tony Award and a Grammy Award. There is never an evening when, somewhere in the world, the music and lyrics of Jerry Herman are not being sung by a lady with a bugle and a lady in a red headdress descending their respective staircases. Jerry Herman was elected into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Theatre Hall of Fame. In 1987 he became the first composer/lyricst in history to have had three musicals which ran over 1500 consecutive performances on Broadway.

A New York institution since 1967 - nealy 50 years - The Gallery Players' season comprises three plays and three musicals from both the classic and contemporary repertoire; the season finale is the annual Black Box New Play festival, which workshops and presents world premier productions of works by emerging playwrights. Gallery has received the Off-Off Broadway Review's 2000 Award for Lifetime Achievement, a multitude of New York Innovative Theater (IT) nominations and awards, and has earned the reputation of "New York's Best Kept Secret."
