"You" is leaving and she doesn't know how to say goodbye to Providence or to "Her." Or to "She." Or "They." Rather than confront the inevitable, she tells jokes, does dances and enacts scraps of remembered and imagined stories in pieces and parts in her half-empty apartment before she leaves for New York City, all the while hoping she'll finally understand how you stay until you go.

Get Away From Me I Love You is queer goodbye performance collage full of dance, pop music, lip sync, borrowed poetry, and transposed images. Hendrix's kaleidoscopic story-telling weaves itself into a night of leaving and longing; what it means to collide and connect, explode and escape; how we hope for transformation while we cling to what we know; and how important the right Kelly Clarkson song can turn out to be.

"This piece is grounded in the personal, and then reaches out to the imaginative and the illustrative," Hendrix explains. "Dancing and lip-synching and karaoke -- it's all silly and earnest at the same time, funny and a little confused. Just like we all become in these transitional moments in life."

Get Away From Me I Love You is written by Leigh Hendrix and created in collaboration with Stephanie Turner and Meg Sullivan, with additional text by Mary Kim Arnold, and performed by Leigh Hendrix and Stephanie Turner.

Leigh Hendrix is a solo performer and actor who created and toured the show How To Be A Lesbian in 10 Days or Less and makes new plays and dances in New York and Providence. Most recently she played Masha in The Beach Eagle, an adaptation of The Seagull by Claire Epstein at Dixon Place. www.leighhendrix.com
