SCARLETT FEVER, a pop culture-infused comedy by former New York Magazine blogger Josh Duboff, will receive its world premiere in the 2012 New York International Fringe Festival. Performances begin August 14, 2012 at the Soho Playhouse.
Gracie is a Scarlett Johansson superfan who spends her days fantasizing about the rich and famous. Joey is an Elle Magazine writer who spends his nights fantasizing about the hunky local barista. Worlds collide when an enigmatic stranger enters the picture in this fast-paced comedy by former New York Magazine and Yahoo! Entertainment blogger Josh Duboff. Ashley Rodbro directs the production.
The cast of SCARLETT FEVER will feature Andy Sandberg, the Tony Award-winning producer of Hair and director of The Last Smoker in America, Charles Andrew Callaghan (The Guthrie’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), Bill Coyne (DC Capital Fringe’s Superhero Celeb Rehab), Patrick Knighton (FringeNYC’s End’s Eve: The Feast of 2012), Jordy Lievers (Alice vs. Wonderland at the Moscow Art Theater) and Alex Trow (Shakespeare Santa Cruz’s Othello).
Duboff is a 26-year-old writer who has blogged for New York Magazine (Daily Intel/Vulture) and Yahoo! Entertainment. His work has also been featured on The Awl, The Hairpin and Thought Catalog. His personal blog, Text Message in a Bottle, has amassed a readership of thousands and features musings on his life and surroundings in New York City. He is a graduate of Yale University and former news editor of the Yale Daily News.
Rodbro is a director, producer, and stage manager. She conceived and directed an original multimedia variety hour called Beyond the iChatter at Ars Nova and developed I’m From Outer Space and Cold Turkey, both as a part of Ars Nova’s ANT FEST. She has also created demos with musical theatre writers Joe Iconis and Jim Yates and played in the band of the Joe Iconis Christmas Spectacular. Equity stage management credits include Shida, Miranda Sings!, Bloodsong of Love, The Wii Plays and Missed Connections for Ars Nova; Seven Minutes in Heaven for Colt Coeur; Jurassic Parq: The Broadway Musical and The Three Times She Knocked at FringeNYC; and Next Thing You Know for CAP 21.
Andy Diaz (Woody Harrelson’s Bullet for Adolph) is the scenic designer. Greg H. Solomon (Prisoner of Love at the 45th Street Theater) is the lighting designer. Shana R. Goldberger (The Gallery Players’ Othello, Hairspray at Cohoes Music Hall) is the costume designer. Phillip Rudy (Trouble The Musical, The Deep Throat Sex Scandal) is the sound designer and production stage manager. Becca Doyle (CAP21’s Southern Comfort, FringeNYC’s Lights Rise On Grace) is the production manager.
SCARLETT FEVER will be performed at the Soho Playhouse, located at 15 Vandam Street between Varick Street and Sixth Avenue. The performance schedule is as follows: Tuesday, August 14 at 3:15pm; Friday, August 17 at 7pm; Thursday, August 23 at 6:45pm; Friday, August 24 at 7pm; and Saturday, August 25 at 3pm.
