FUSE PROJECT Returns to Symphony Space

Symphony Space, one of New York's best-loved cultural destinations, is pleased to announce the return of FUSE PROJECT conceived by Artistic Director Andrew Byrne. Back for its third year, FUSE celebrates the creative process with new work, commissions, and fresh collaborations (February 3 - 17).

Opening the series is the US premiere of award-winning Australian composer Kate Moore'sBushranger Psychodrama, a new 50-minute piece co-commissioned by Symphony Space for Irish singer Iarla Ó Lionáird, joined by PUBLIQuartet string quartet. This evening also includes a solo set of traditional Irish tunes performed by Ó Lionáird, and works by Meredith Monk, Caroline Shaw, and Jessie Montgomery performed by PUBLIQuartet. (Feb. 3).

Six. Twenty. Outrageous., a chamber opera by rising composer Daniel ThomasA. Davis, receives itsworld premiere in a production staged by sought-after director Douglas Fitch. Based on a trio of plays by Gertrude Stein, it boasts an all-star lineup including mezzo-soprano Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek (Anonymous 4), soprano Ariadne Greif, and tenor Andrew Fuchs, with the acclaimedMomenta Quartet under musical director David Bloom (Feb. 9 - 11). Produced in partnership with American Opera Projects.

Hear indie rock duo Wye Oak and Brooklyn-based composer William Brittelle's music as never before in a two-part concert programmed exclusively for Symphony Space. Favorites from Wye Oak's album Shreik are performed by Wye Oak and NYC's award-winning Metropolis Ensemblewith new arrangements by Brittelle, followed by the world premiere of Brittelle's song cycle Spiritual America, a stunning mix of classical, electronica, and rock music, featuring Brooklyn Youth Chorus(Feb. 16).

FUSE wraps up with the New York premiere of Music for the Long Emergency, born of the artistic collision of two innovative ensembles: Berlin's vibrant and forward-thinking s t a r g a z e, led by renowned conductor Andre de Ridder, and celebrated Minneapolis-based Poliça. A new electronica-based work for the collective by Los Angeles-based "rising star composer" (Time Out New York) Daniel Wohl, co-commissioned by Symphony Space, opens the program alongside the reimagining of a minimalist classic by Steve Reich (Feb. 17).

Both Spiritual America and Music for the Long Emergency are presented in partnership with the curatorial collective Infinite Palette.

Symphony Space traces its beginnings to a winter's day in 1978 when our two visionary co-founders, Isaiah Sheffer and Allan Miller, threw open the doors of a dilapidated theater for a freemarathon concert, Wall to Wall Bach. Wall to Wall, Symphony Space's annual gift to the city, has since become one of our signature events.
