Brave Face Theatre presents this comedic grown-up fantasy that examines the question, what are the costs and rewards of our own stubbornness? Tired Wave Stop is a one-man show that wholly manages to engage audiences with complex, hilarious, and touching characters that are both born of the sea, and scorned of the sea.
"Boleantu owns his characters and the stage, entrancing the audience with his
expressive agility and punchy one-liners." - EYE Weekly
The Sea Captain, a lonely bearded curmudgeon, despises dry land and tries to surround himself with salt water at all times. While on the open sea in his boat, The White Dove, our captain quests to find his long lost lover - a mermaid. Driven by his infatuation, he inadvertently ends up discovering what he least expects, Monkey Boy, their illicit love child. What follows is a 10-year voyage spent looking for their mermaid together, as they oscillate between mutual love, hatred, and indifference. Tired Wave Stop is based on Steve Boleantu's relationship with his father, an absurd alternate reality of his own life.
