Fifteen-year old Kailyn Marksfield never made it out of the New Jersey Pine Barrens after a game of flashlight tag gone wrong. Are teenagers to blame? Or ancient, mythical demons? Gossip spreads through a small town in Southern New Jersey as friendships unravel and blur the line between the lies we tell and the games we play.
For the final production of its inaugural season, Egg & Spoon Theatre Collective has commissioned and developed a brand new play by Jess Honovich. Written as a haunting exploration of folklore, friendship, and the fragility of growing up set within the secluded confines of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, THE JERSEY DEVIL DOESN'T EXIST is the perfect end to Season One. It will be directed by Egg & Spoon Artistic Director, Liam Lonegan.
Following MORNING and A DREAM PLAY, Egg & Spoon's earlier productions this year, THE JERSEY DEVIL will not disappoint. "We are just so lucky to have a writer with this much talent and experience," Lonegan notes. "The questions that Jess has brought to life with this play, are questions we really need asked right now. Throughout the process, we've all been forced to think about the lies that we tell every day. The demons that we feed, all to keep our image and ego alive."
Egg & Spoon Theatre Collective is an organization dedicated to fostering the artistic growth of pre-professional theatre makers. Its intention is to produce challenging and thought-provoking plays, while maintaining a sense of exploration and play. In the process of honing their craft, and building their skill set, Egg & Spoon artists are able to take large risks without fear of the unknown. "It's been a wonderful, thrilling experience to develop this new play with this young, driven ensemble and company," says Honovich.
The production of THE JERSEY DEVIL DOESN'T EXIST features Christine Fang, Elizabeth Carson, Jillian Wipfler, Kelsey Pressnall, and Shoshana Canali. Written by Jess Honovich.
