The final two plays of Downtown Art's 2010/11 Writers Project, 'The Plastic Couch'  by Alyssa Burgos and 'Men who Call Themselves Artists' by India Kotiswill, be presented June 9 & 10 at 7:30pm.

'The Plastic Couch' - by Alyssa Burgos
A portrait of a large Nuyorican family - three generations trying to love and care for each other, each in their own way - and the grandmother whose humor, eccentricities, and mental illness inhabits the center of their world.

'Men who Call Themselves Artists' - by India Kotis
Set in 1955, the play follows Rosa, a young Jewish woman who grew up in poverty on the Lower East Side, and is now trying to make her way as a photographer. Often brusque, determinedly unsentimental, Rosa feels like she's seen it all. Now Jimmy, a young Midwestern former G.I. studying art in Cooper Union, is challenging her in ways she's not sure she likes.

Downtown Art is located at 61 E. 4th Street, 7th Floor. Tickets are Adults $10 and Students $5 on the door. Reservations can be made from info@downtownart.org
