Look at the Fish Theatre announces playwright Don Nigro has joined their company, which is presenting their second production since their debut last fall. THE GENESIS COLLECTION OF PLAYS, written by Don Nigro, will be performed in its entirety for the first time ever on stage at the One Sky Performance Space on 150 West 28th Street, 6th Floor in Manhattan.
THE GENESIS COLLECTION OF PLAYS is described by director and Look at the Fish Theatre founder Thomas James Lombardo as “nine dramatic monologues for the Theatre, tales of creation; love; carnage & obsession.” Look at the Fish Theatre member Evan Daves direct five of the nine monologues, with Lombardo directing the remaining four. The show opens on August 22 at 8pm with performances Wednesday through Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm until the show closes on Sunday, September 2 with a performance at 2pm. Tickets are $18 ($15 for students and seniors with ID), available through smarttix.com or by calling 212-868-4444.“I'm very pleased to be a part of the Look At The Fish Theatre Company,” Nigro remarks, “They investigate the text and trust the text. That's very important to me. I think they will do brave, honest, and good work.” Nigro is one of independent theatre’s most prolific playwrights, penning more than 300 plays. THE GENESIS COLLECTION OF PLAYS represents a group of monologues that focus on “the idea of creation,” says Lombardo, “The Common theme of creation links the group monologues, represented in what creation means to each of the characters.”
The characters featured in THE GENESIS COLLECTION OF PLAYS are interconnected in their unique takes on the idea of creation. They range from a mad woman’s fears of a future where earth’s resources vanish along with its value of human life to a young woman whose obsession with Frankenstein and the gothic period leads her to create her own reality within the myths she loves. “Monologues are rarely done anymore in performance,” explains Lombardo, “it's almost as if the public does not take them seriously. Actors, directors, and audiences tend to shy away from them as if they were an embarrassing photograph. We'd like to shine light on this underrated and very old form of storytelling.”
The Genesis Collection of Plays is directed by Evan Daves and Thomas James Lombardo and features: Colby Minifie*, Rachel Troy, Thomas James Lombardo, Becky Bush, Ridley Parson*, Mervyn Morris, Dana Kraft* and Maia Sage.
