Dixon Place Presents TWEED Fractured Classicks Series' Butthairflies ‘R’ Free

The TWEED Fractured Classicks Series has presented soaring, irreverent interpretations of classic American plays and films for over 15 years. From The Women (Project: Jungle Red) and CAGED! at Town Hall to Inferiors (Woody Allen's Interiors ) at Comix, to Raisinets in The Sunshine at Theater 80 St Marks, the series has a long history of illuminating beloved dramatic works - while hilariously, shamelessly, skewering them.

Butthairflies ‘R' Free heralds the beginning of the 17th year of TWEED's acclaimed underground series. Renowned for taking the great works to new heights (depths?), we are now tackling one of the American Theater's sort of acclaimed works. Right to the ground! Our version, set in the grimy punk-rock scene of Manhattan's lower east side in the 70's, stars TWEED veterans David Ilku (Unitard, The Dueling Bankheads ), Jodi Lennon (Exit 57, One Woman Shoe, Second City), Bradford Scobie (Moisty The Snowman, the NYC Burlesque scene), and Jay Rogers (The New Century, Whoop Dee Do!, La Gran Scena Opera Co.). As always, the play has been "fractured" by Stephen Pell (formerly of The Ridiculous Theatrical Co.) and is directed by TWEED artistic director Kevin Malony (Lypsinka! The Boxed Set, John Kelly's Paved Paradise, The Mailman Always Comes Twice. Costumes, as usual, are by Ramona Ponce!

Biographys:
David Ilku has in been seen various performances in New York City night clubs including The Pyramid, Dancetieria and Jackie 60. He has worked with New York Theater Workshop, The Drama Dept., The Culture Project, as well as with TWEED. Films include Fair Game, Life in Flight, Risk, Blue Steel, Liquid Sky and Full Gown Men which he co-produced. He also co-wrote and performed with Jennifer Tilly in the short film, Salvation for Giorgio Armani, directed by David LaChapelle. David is one third of the comedy trio Unitard and one half of the comedy duo The Dueling Bankheads.

Jodi Lennon is an alumna of Chicago's Second City Improv Olympic as well as a founding member of The Annoyance Theatre. She moved to NYC as a writer/performer of Comedy Central's Exit 57. On stage she originated roles in the Obie award-winning One Woman Shoe, and Incident at Cobbler's Knob, both by Amy & David Sedaris, and created, Tame Show, a weekly comedy show for Broadway Video's, Burly Bear Network. She continued to improvise at UCBNY in Asssscat and Let's Have A Ball. Jodi performed in many TWEED productions including Imitation of Imitation of Life, Posteriors and recently Raisinets In The Sunshine.

Jay Rogers has appeared on Broadway in Cleavage at The 48th St. Playhouse, in Idaho at NYMF, The New Century, at the Mitzi Newhouse Theatre, My Deah at Abingdon Theatre, Whoop De Doo! at The Actors Playhouse, When Pigs Fly (Drama Desk Nomination) at The Douglas Fairbanks, Archy and Mehitabel at St. Peter's Church, The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, at St. Clement's Theatre, and with the La Gran Scena Opera Co. Di New York. As a longstanding member of TWEED, Jay appeared in Elegies For Angels Punks and Raging Queens, and the fractured classsicks Pic-Up , The Bad Seedling, Jungle Red, Pi at a Hot Tin Trough, Screen Door, Lypsinka Is Harriet Craig, and The Children's Hour .

BRADFORD SCOBIE wrote and starred in his musical comedy, Moisty the Snowman Saves Christmas at Dixon Place last December. He performed his comedy show, Gorgeous Morons at the Dublin InterNational Theatre Festival and the HBO Comedy Arts Festival. He can be seen hosting numerous burlesque and variety shows in any one of incarnations: Doctor Donut, Redhook the Pirate, Johnny Rooster and Pilgrim William. He has appeared in numerous TWEED productions including playing Brick in Pig in a Hot Tin Trough, Nick in The Mailman Always Comes Twice and most recently, Alan, in Pic-Up.

Ramona Ponce, nominated for both the Innovative Theater and Henry Hewes Design awards, started her costume career at The Ridiculous Theatrical Company. She has long-standing relationships with a number of companies around town, including TWEED, LaMama ETC, The Hotel Savant, The Little Orchestra Society, Nomad Theatre, Watson Arts and Flying Pancakes. She costumes and accessorizes individual performance artists such as The Fabulous LuLu LoLo and Poor Baby Bree.. Her artwork has been displayed at galleries in New York and Arizona. Kevin Malony worked in regional theater before moving to New York City where is now a director and producer. He is the founder and artistic director of TWEED TheaterWorks, a non-profit producing organization that has been a forerunner in downtown arts community for over twenty years.

TWEED TheaterWorks was foundedby Kevin Malony in the early eighties and has grown from tiny late night shows in east village nightclubs to full scale productions at premier Manhattan venues. For two decades TWEED has produced some of the most innovative and unusual performance art, musical, experimental and progressive theater in New York , including works by John Kelly, Bill Russell, Lisa Kron, Mark Dendy, Len Jenkins, Jeffrey Jones, Peter Askin, Peggy Shaw, Lola Pashalinski, John (Lypsinka) Epperson and Jackie Hoffman, among others . The Tweed Fractured Classicks Series is an extremely popular underground series which presents classic American plays and films featuring alternative, often cross gender, casting. The series has presented some of downtown's most astonishing performers - as well as some bona fide celebrities, including Lily Tomlin, Joan Rivers, Isabella Rossellini, and Tammy Grimes in great works by great playwrights.

ABOUT DIXON PLACE

Dixon Place is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 to provide a space for literary and performing artists to create and develop new works in front of a live audience. While other venues of its kind have since disappeared or now only present established artists, Dixon Place remains at the heart of the New York experimental performance scene. Taking risks is crucial to the life of Dixon Place, its artists and audiences. In April, Dixon Place will launch a year long 25th Anniversary season with special events, parties, and the return of many DP alumni to celebrate a home for new artists to present their evolving work.

Dixon Place's primary commitments are to bring artists and audiences together through live performance in order to expand the understanding of the creative process and its final product, and to provide a supportive environment for emerging artists to present new work. Over the last twenty-three years, Dixon Place has successfully maintained its intimate atmosphere and unique environment while increasing its programming to fulfill the need for performance opportunities for the New York community of performing and literary artists.
