Dialogue with Three Chords presents "Lots" from playwright Sean Meehan as a benefit for the veteran-run charity On Behalf Of a Grateful Nation. Meehan has been a featured actor in previous Dialogue with Three Chords productions. The show also features live music on November 29, 8pm, downstairs at Mr. Dennehy's pub on 63 Carmine Street in Manhattan. Admission is free with $3 suggested donation. All proceeds will benefit On Behalf of a Grateful Nation who raise money for veterans and their families in the New York and New England area.
'Lots' is a play for one actor, featuring Meehan in the role he describes as "a man obsessively and repeatedly returns to an event in his past, the catching and killing of a mouse, until he finds the truth beneath the surface." The play is the first work from Meehan, who writes the piece after years as an actor. "A few years ago I found myself daydreaming at a rent paying job I was doing at the time. I'd find myself making up characters, thinking of the perfect auditions, and then one day I realized…write them down. Make your own audition."
In addition to his work with Dialogue with Three Chords, Meehan performed in "NEXT," a WWII era drama written by Dialogue with Three Chords founder Stephen Gracia. Gracia worked closely with Meehan to develop "Lots" for performance. "It wouldn't be much of an exaggeration to say that Stephen is the reason I wrote this," says Meehan. After prompting from Gracia, Meehan sent him the writing he'd begun but never finished. "The next afternoon I had a full page of helpful critique. Since then I have been running drafts by him...Dialogue with Three Chords has been the place that I have kept my artistic half alive."
The show also features a live musical performance from Joe Whyte (www.joewhyte.com).
