Dialogue with Three Chords Present Three New Plays, 3/27

Dialogue with Three Chords (D3C) presents new works that find characters at the start of the Great Depression, at the end of WWII, and sometime between the Easter Offensive and the Paris Peace Talks. The three brand new works revisit characters introduced in previous D3C performances, but also function as stand-alone pieces. Written by Stephen Gracia and directed by Michael LoPorto these plays are a continuation "Shipyard Souls & A Compass Rose," a full-length play presented in installments which began last August. The serialized works are presented as part of their residency at Mr. Dennehy's on 63 Carmine Street in Greenwich Village. The performance begins at 8pm on Thursday, March 27. Admission is free, with a $3 suggested donation.

This month, D3C produces an evening of "three plays about failed apocalypses, true love, the transmutation of vaudeville, and gallows humor as a means of prayer," Gracia explains. In this new group of plays "resolve is tested, efforts are redoubled, the dead are mourned, and our characters reach for the best in all of us."

"Heart Broken & Wired For Sound" continues the story of two people drawn together by tragedy, love, and the riots raging outside their door in Brooklyn at the start of the great depression. "Whispered Jokes & War Broadcasts" finds us in the same Brooklyn location years later, during the throes of WWII. A captain without a ship shares a drink and commiserates with a former crewmember and a supernatural murderer who has had a change of perspective. "We Are Not Fixin' To Die; We Are Here To Go On" finds familiar characters on a cliff overlooking the pacific ocean speaking about the end of the Vietnam War, folk music, and the best way to bury a man at sea.

"Heart Broken & Wired For Sound" features Jessica Bathurst as Annetje and Ian Patrick Poake as Neal. "Whispered Jokes & War Broadcasts" features Gil Ron as Captain Albert, Anton Koval as Enoch and Anthony Marino as Haxell. "We Are Not Fixin' To Die; We Are Here To Go On" features Larry Greenbush as Whitney, Sean Mellott as Howe and Steven Weinblatt as Joshua.

Dialogue with Three Chords was founded in 2011 by Stephen Gracia and Michael LoPorto and applies the do-it-yourself philosophy of punk to the stage and features short plays and live music. Their work has also been produced at Sargent Theatre, Makor Theater, DUMBO Theatre Exchange, Levenson Hall at Brooklyn College, and the Theaters at 45 Bleecker.
