There are 12 million illegal immigrants living in this country today. The celebrated one-man play DIRT starring Christopher Domig is the story of one of them. Mr. Domig has received rave reviews for performing Robert Schneider's play around the world and now returns to New York with a bold new production at The 4th Street Theater (83 East 4th Street) from today, September 18 to October 12. He won "Best Actor" for this role at the New York International Fringe Festival and performed it at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Vancouver Fringe Festival in addition to lauded performances in London and Berlin. An exclusive online trailer is now available. This production of DIRT is directed by Mary Catherine Burke and produced by Dreck Theatre Ensemble.

DIRT is a powerful drama about racism and the havoc it wreaks upon the human soul. This haunting and at times funny 70-minute drama tells the story of Sad, a desperately-alienated illegal immigrant from Iraq, living on the fringes of Western society. Charming and humorous, yet cynical and violent, he confronts xenophobia and latent racism as he peddles roses to eke out an existence. Issues of identity, anti-foreign sentiment and self-worth are brought to life through the character's disturbing psychological self-portrait.

Robert Schneider was named "Best New Playwright" by the German theatre magazine Theatre Heute upon DIRT's original publication in 1993, and it went on to become the most frequently-performed solo show in Austria, Germany and Switzerland in the 1990?s. Domig introduced it to English-speaking audiences in this translation by Paul Dvorak. The production features set design by Edward K. Ross, lighting design by Dan Jobbins and costume design by Hunter Kaczorowski.

DIRT will be presented at The 4th Street Theater (83 East 4th Street, between Bowery and Second Avenue) from September 18 to October 12. The performance schedule is Wednesday through Friday at 8:00 PM; Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 7:30 PM. There will be addition 3:00 PM performances on Saturday, September 20; Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12 at. There is no 7:30 PM performance on Sunday, October 12.
