Cuentos is a production that cultivates bilingual verse, English and Spanish, and magical realism. Taking the audience on a journey through the ghetto and El Barrio with stops at Central Park and Purgatory, Cuentos, is an exploration of the Nuyorican and Puerto Rican experience. It is a stream of consciousness production where the asphalt meets La Isla in order to capture the unique voice of a community often times identified as ni de aqui, ni de alla - neither here nor there.
The show will feature the world premiere of "Cuando la Memoria se Convierte en Olvido" by Carlos Canales ( "Bony and Kin") and three short theater plays from "The Giants Have Us In Their Books" by José Rivera ("Marisol" and "Motorcycle Diaries"), the cast includes Jorge Luis Berrios, Christin Eve Cato, Leticia Diaz and Michael Pichardo.
Cuentos y Lamentos: From New York to La Isla del Encanto will be staged at the Shetler Studios Bridge Theater on 224 West 54th Street, 12th floor in Manhattan with varying performance show times: October 15, 16 & 17 at 8 pm and October 17 & 18 at 2 pm.
