A new work created from the only extant trilogy of ancient Greece. King Agamemnon sacrifices his daughter, Iphigenia, to the gods on his path to war. Her death sets in motion a seemingly unbreakable chain of vengeful acts that engulf the royal family at the House of Atreus. A mythic narrative examining the savage and divine within human nature.
Jonathan Vandenberg (MFA 2011) and his ensemble of collaborators return to the origins of theatre in search of a universal theatrical form beyond dialogue. In this production, Aeschylus's text is held to the fire. A visceral theatre of body, image, and sound emerges from the ashes.
Jonathan Vandenberg (Adaptor/Director) has written and directed Kafka Parables, Distance, No Such Thing, Ontology of Theatre, and Amnesiac. He has also directed many classic and modern texts. His work has been presented by the Magic Theater, Representation Theater in Taipei, San Francisco Theater Festival, Around the World in 24 Hours Festival, Naked Masks, and New Langton Arts. Most recently he was Associate Director to RoBert Woodruff on FestenMacher for the NYU graduate acting program. He is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab.
