Chasen Schneider Completes William Inge's A COMPLEX EVENING Cast

Chasen Schneider, son of John Schneider of The Dukes of Hazzard fame, will once again be in the 13 person ReGroup ensemble as it proudly announces its first production of 2016 -William Inge's A Complex Evening, featuring a night of Inge's rare One-Acts in their New York debut. While featuring the previously produced and published A Social Event, the evening of One-Acts features the residents of an apartment complex in which the neighbors have no idea as to who is living or what is happening on the other side of their walls. Set in NY, during the 1960's, civil rights, sexuality, consumerism, prescription drug abuse, and stalking are just some of the issues that permeate the complex. The plays, including The Love Death, Bad Breath, Moved In, & The Power of Silence range from the slapstick to the hauntingly suicidal goodbye of a neglected writer.

William Inge is one of the greatest, most acclaimed American playwrights, with an unprecedented run in the 1950's of Come Back, Little Sheba, Picnic (Pulitzer Prize Winner), Bus Stop and The Dark at the Top of the Stairs. Inge received the Oscar in 1961 for the best screenplay for the Natalie Wood, Warren Beatty led feature Splendor in the Grass. After a handful of commercial Broadway flops, Inge was the subject of a brutal smear campaign by an up and coming critic bent on nullifying Inge's massive accomplishments in order to make a name off the back of Inge. In a rare moment of candor, Inge writes of this encounter in The Love Death - his theatrical suicide note. Though he completed the novels Good Luck Miss Wyckoff and My Son is a Splendid Driver, Inge committed suicide in 1973. His first entirely posthumous work appeared last year at Williamstown Theatre Festival.

Under the direction of Allie Mulholland, the cast includes Charles Black, Tish Brandt, Timothy Harrison, Jenny Hoofnagle, Haley Jones, Fariso Jordan, John Lenartz, Jeff Riberdy, Anthony Ritosa, Chasen Schneider, Wesli Spencer, and Monica Wyche. Rachel Marks serves as Lighting Designer and Stage Manager.

As with their previous productions, any unpurchased seats will be available nightly, on the honor system, to those currently unemployed.

The ReGroup, a 501(c)(3) Not-for-Profit, is in its 5th season which is focusing on the playwrights discovered by legendary agent Audrey Wood. Previous seasons have focused on the lost plays of the Group Theatre, including the critically acclaimed 1931- and The House of Connelly. In 5 years, they've produced over 30 free staged readings, and this year, their reading series, ReGroup Reads focuses on the 100th anniversary of the Pulitzer Prize. They are also in the final stages of publishing The Lost Group Theatre Plays: Vol 4. Their previous volumes featured not only the first time in print versions of rare Group Theatre Plays including those of Robert Ardrey, Nellise Child, Paul Green, John Howard Lawson, Irwin Piscator, and Claire & Paul Sifton but essays by Daniel Ardrey, George Bartenieff, Margaret Bauer, Jeff Lawson, William Ivey Long, Judith Malina, Estelle Parsons, Wendy Smith, and Marsha Warren.
