Chad Austin To Direct SKYSCRAPER Revival In May 2019 Image

Regeneration Theatre announces a fully staged revival of the infamous 1960s musical SKYSCRAPER will play Urbanstages' Theatre at 30th Street in May 2019, directed and choreographed by Chad Austin, the newly announced Artistic Director of Abingdon Theatre. This will be the 2nd show in Regeneration Theatre's 2018-19 season, following on from the currently running production of SMALL CRAFT WARNINGS by Tennessee Williams at 13th Street Repertory Theatre until Nov 11, 2018.

Not seen anywhere since it ran a disappointing 248 performances in 1965-66 and was subjected to an infamous pre-opening pan from columnist Dorothy Kilgallen, SKYSCRAPER features a score by James Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn, and was the second Broadway book by Peter Stone, and received 5 Tony Award nominations in a year that also included Man of La Mancha, Mame, and Sweet Charity. The musical is loosely based on Dream Girl by Elmer Rice, and starred Julie Harris, Charles Nelson Reilly, and Peter Marshall. SKYSCRAPER is a musical slice of 1960s New York, complete with the battle of the sexes, tension between developers and preservationists, and a cavalcade of dreams and dreamers that seem to be a copyright of New York City back-in-the-day. However, SKYSCRAPER, while a period piece, is now resoundingly relevant today.

Chad Austin's recent credits include Closer Than Ever honoring Donna Murphy, Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert on NBC, And the World Goes 'Round honoring Bebe Neuwirth, Alone in the U.S.A. Lady L'Amours' Final Bow, Who Are You?, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel, Down to Me, (Beirut, Lebanon) Chess (A.T.A NYC) Peter and the Wolf (Hampton Ballet Theatre), Alice in Wonderland (Kyone Ballet Brazil) Spring Awakening, The Wedding Singer, and the musical movies Walk the Walk, Landed, and Winning New York (official section 2016 young film maker series). Chad was last seen on stage in Doric Wilson's award-winning Drama Street Theatre (Tosos NYC). Chad originated the role of Edonis in the Off-Broadway comedy Play About the Naked Guy (Emerging Artists Theatre). Other NYC and Regional include; Cinderella (Lincoln Center), The Man That Came to Dinner, Cabaret, Forever Under, Murder Uncensored, Valentino the Musical, Street Scene, and A Chorus Line. TV: CBS's "Guiding Light." Chad made his Metropolitan Opera Ballet Debut in John Adam's and Peter Sellar's Grammy Award winning Doctor Atomic, and performed in over 15 new Metropolitan Opera productions! Chad is also the Artistic Director of Shake Hands Musical Theatre School in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Regeneration Theatre is dedicated to rediscovering lesser known and forgotten works to look for relevant themes and messages, enabling them to be enjoyed by today's audiences. Casting will be announced at a later date and tickets will be on sale soon. More info and announcements can be found at http://regenerationtheatre.org
